Pyxis Procedures during
Downtime
When Meditech
or the Pyxis server goes down, any new information regarding new patients or
new medication orders will not cross over to Pyxis.
What this means: All new
patients or transferred patients will have to be manually added to the Pyxis.
All new orders will have to be removed under Override in Pyxis.
To add a patient in the
Pyxis:
· Log into the Pyxis
· Go under Remove
· At the bottom of the screen
hit the Add Patient button
· Add the patient’s
full name and their correct ID number and hit Accept
**Hixson Patient account
numbers begin with N0 ßthis is a Zero not an O**
During the downtime, the Pyxis machines will be
put into Critical Override mode. Critical override means
that the profile which displays for each patient is only as accurate as the
last communication between Pyxis and Meditech, and
the nurse can override any medication
in the Medstation, instead of being limited to only those on the override list.
Before overriding:
·
There
must be an active, written order for the desired medication
·
Verify the accuracy of the override med against the
order with another nurse
·
Review the patient’s record for any potential
allergies or contraindications
·
The verifying nurse must witness the safety check
at the Pyxis Medstation
To override a medication:
·
Log into the Pyxis
·
Go under Remove
·
Select the patient
·
If the med is not on the profile, select Override Meds button at bottom of screen
·
Select and remove the override med
·
Verify the accuracy of the override med against the
order with another nurse
Please remember that there
will be delays even after Meditech/Pyxis comes back
up. Patient information/transfers will have to catch up. You can still add the
patient to your unit if they are not showing. Pharmacy will also have to catch
up on orders, please keep this in mind when you are looking for new
medications.
